I really want to share my top 6 habits for achieving long, healthy hair with you because having long hair is nice but having long AND healthy hair is a whole other story!
Jennifer Aniston’s “The Rachel”, Meg Ryan’s “Shag”, Farrah’s “Feathered” look, Lois Lane’s one length sleek blunt cut; hair trends go as quickly as they come and while that’s great for those who are edgy and love to keep changing their looks I’m more on the traditional side and love a look that’s timeless. For me that means long hair and that comes with lots of hard work and effort.
I love LONG hair, but more than that, I love HEALTHY hair! There’s nothing worse than when I see long, dried, over-processed, damaged hair! Drives me crazy.
So if you really want to grow your hair long AND healthy than you need to follow these tips! I get complimented on my hair all the time and while I politely thank you for your sweet comments I am actually really thanking you for noticing the hard work I put into it 😀
Whether your hair is short, shoulder length or even long right now and you want to take it to another level then keep reading as these tips have gotten my hair from meh to wow in a relatively short period of time. If your goal is to grow out a short or bad haircut or to get your already long hair to a healthy state than DO follow the tips below.
What follows are my top 6 habits for long, healthy hair.
1) Inversion Method for fast hair growth!
I’m not going to say much on this other than that this is the technique I use to get long hair fast! I had seen a lot about this method online along with many before/after pics and so I decided to give it a try. Needless to say I was hooked and have been doing it constantly. I don’t do it every month but at lest every other month. For more details on what this is all about (as well as my own before/after pic from the first time I did it) read this post
I can’t tell you enough how this incredible vitamin is responsible for giving my hair strength and vitality. Not only for my hair but for my eyebrows as well and my skin and nails. Biotin has been known to improve the keratin infrastructure which is the basic protein that make up hair, skin and nails. Always ask your doctor before using any supplements and ask what the best dose for you is. I currently take 10,000 mcg a day. Biotin has been known to help with brittle nails and hair loss. While on this topic, do remember to eat well and drink plenty of water.
3) Coconut Oil
I use coconut oil in so many ways. I use it to tame frizz especially during humid weather which is great because while it’s taming that frizz it’s actually treating my hair as well. Deep coconut oil masks are one of my favorite hair masks. I simply lather my scalp and hair right up to the ends and I do this before I hop in the shower. I do this once a week. I generously apply the mask all over, put my hair up in a bun and leave it on for about an hour or more. The longer the better. Wash it off in the shower. Voila, deep nourishing mask! I also use it for the inversion method. See point #1 .
4) Stop using tools/products and anything that is damaging
This is by far the most drastic thing I have changed in my routine and while it was NOT easy at first, I can happily say that it has paid off BIG TIME! I realize now that the biggest obstacle was myself. I needed to change my thinking. When I finally ‘accepted’ that my hair IS wavy, I learned to embrace it and work with it. Since that epiphany I work with my natural hair so it looks its best in its natural state- wavy. I now either let it dry naturally or use clever techniques such as the sock bun or headband to get gorgeous curls without the heat! This step alone has not only prevented damage but I can confidently say that it has actually reversed some of the existing damage such as dryness and frizziness. As well, I have reduced significantly the amount of times I dye my hair. I went from coloring every 4-6 weeks to every 4-5 months! That’s huge and my hair is thanking me for it and it will for you too! This may be the hardest thing to do on the list but stick to it, embrace your natural hair (whatever it is) and work with it. You will not regret it.
5) Tangle Teezer
Having the right tools to treat your hair is indispensable. This is especially so when your hair is wet. That is when it is at its most fragile state and when you want to manipulate it as less and as delicately as possible. Having said that, I have lots of thick, wavy hair and detangling it is not easy. I have fallen in LOVE with this brush. It was sent to me to review and I can’t say enough great things about it! If you have thick, curly hair you will love it! Comes in cool colors and is very comfortable to hold but more than the look and feel, it works great! It gets the tangles right out without pulling or snagging my hair. Curly-haired girls will truly appreciate this! It is certainly a must-have for me now and I can’t live without it. In fact I was traveling recently and took it with me and when I returned I couldn’t find it and I had to go back to my pick. Let me tell you I was not in a good place! Good news though gals…I turned the house upside down and I found it! Moral of the story? Good tools are essential for your hair. If you want to know more about it check out their site at http://www.nailpolishcanada.com/categories/tangle-teezer.html.
I believe they ship free within Canada – bonus!
6) Uniq One -Coconut
I love this 10 in 1 hair treatment. It truly does replace multiple products. I did a video review on the original product. You can view it here. Uniq One has added yet another product which is very similar to their original but adding the fragrance of coconut which as you know I love love love 🙂 The feel of this product is just incredible. I apply it on my damp hair and comb it out using my awesome brush and my hair feels incredibly silky soft…it claims to benefit your hair in 10 ways, thus eliminating your need for multiple products (which saves you lots of $$) and it really is great. Smells awesome, nurtures my hair and makes it sleek, soft and manageable! I purchase mine at the salon and have been for a few years now but if you want more info about the line you can visit their site at: http://www.uniq-one.com/web/
7) Patience, patience, patience!
Ok so I lied. 😛 There are 7 things…If you have not been nice with your hair over the years than you can’t expect your hair to be suddenly long and healthy. It will take time but if you incorporate the steps I outlined above you will have gorgeous hair in no time; long and healthy! Trust me!
